Security tightened ahead of Republic Day
Srinagar, Jan. 23 -- Ahead of Republic Day, the police have intensified security across the Srinagar city and other parts of the Valley.
The main Republic Day function in Kashmir will be held at SK Stadium, and also at District and tehsil headquarters. Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha will unfurl the Tricolour in Jammu and J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah will be chief guest.
"As part of the enhanced security grid, police personnel have been deployed at strategic locations. Special checkpoints and mobile patrols have been established, where thorough checking of vehicles and individuals is being carried out. Night patrols and surprise inspections are also being conducted to maintain heightened vigilance and to deter any attempt to disturb public order," a police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, additional deployments have been made in sensitive areas, with a special focus on monitoring suspicious movements. J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat chaired security review meetings in Srinagar and other districts. The army is also carrying out night domination operations at sensitive places.
