Shimla, Jan. 17 -- A patwari was injured after the revenue department team, out for demarcation, was allegedly attacked by a samiti chairman. The incident happened in Manali assembly constituency of Kullu district. The victim, identified as Bhop Singh, was seriously injured and has been admitted to Dhalpur Hospital for treatment. "We have registered a case under relevant sections on the statement of the revenue department officials. The person accused had first manhandled the Kangoo and then attacked Patwari. The police persons who intervened to safe the revenue officials also sustained minor injuries," said Kullu superintendent of police Madan Lal. Bhop Singh in his complaint to the police said that they had received a complaint by a person from Raugi panchayat stating that Khek Ram had encroached upon government land. Following this, the naib tehsildar issued orders for the demarcation of the government land. When he reached the spot with his other officers, panchayat samiti chairman Khek Ram told them to wait for him and then start the demarcation work. Patwari alleged that the accused Khek Ram also threatened to kill him. Talking to media after the attack, Bhop Singh said that the accused Khek Ram of repeatedly beating him with sticks for approximately 10 minutes. Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur visited the Kullu regional hospital to meet the injured patwari. Speaking to the media about the incident, he said, "The brutality inflicted upon the Kanungo and Patwari, who had gone to conduct a survey on the orders of the administration, is highly condemnable, shameful, and a direct attack on the law and order situation in the state."...
