J&K assembly passes private universities bill
Jammu, April 5 -- The House on Saturday passed the Jammu and Kashmir Private Universities Bill, 2026 (L.A. Bill No. 08 of 2026), moved by education minister Itoo earlier during the day, on last day of assembly session, by voice note.
The chief minister (CM) Omar Abdullah on Saturday congratulated education minister Sakina Itoo and all stakeholders and described the passage of J&K Private Universities Bill as a "milestone moment for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir".
"The Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly passed the Private Universities Bill today, marking a significant step towards shaping a brighter future for our youth," the chief minister said.
"The Bill is expected to open new avenues for quality higher education within J&K, reduce the need for students to move outside the region, and attract reputed institutions to invest in the Union Territory," he added....
