Shimla, March 28 -- Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Friday hailed the decision of Narendra Modi-led government at Centre for reducing the excise duties on petrol and diesel, calling it a "historic and people-centric decision." Referring to official Gazette Notification issued on March 26, Himachal BJP chief Rajeev Bindal stated that the move would provide direct relief to nearly 1.4 billion citizens and help control inflation. "Despite international pressure on fuel prices, the Modi government has prioritized public welfare and shielded citizens from the burden," he added. Leader of the Opposition and former Himachal chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, said, "The decisive step will shield the poor and common man from the burden of rising fuel costs," said Thakur. Talking about the Centre's decision to reduce duty on petrol and diesel, CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday said that he would review its impact. "I have just received information about the reduction in import duty on fuel by the Government of India. I am yet to assess how much it has been reduced and what impact it will have. There is a meeting later today where we will discuss it," he said....
