AIP allege attacks on Kashmiri inmates in Tihar
Srinagar, Feb. 18 -- Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) on Tuesday alleged that there was a "brutal and murderous attack" on Kashmiri inmates by a section of jail authorities in the jail number 8/9 of Tihar recently.
In a statement, AIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said that they have reliable information that Kashmiri inmates were being humiliated, tortured and physically beaten to pulp by a section of jail authorities.
"While such incidents are a routine matter in that jail, however on 28 January, one Kashmiri inmate, namely Nasir Ahmad Mir , of Sopore, was attacked by around half a dozen head wardens like wild beasts, causing grievous injuries to his neck, head and left eye," the statement said.
"He started bleeding from the nose and head and was referred to the Tihar Jail dispensary. However, on seeing his critical condition, the doctor on duty referred him to DDU Hospital, but the hospital authorities, after finding him critical, referred him to Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, for further treatment," the statement added.
"We demand strict, time-bound and exemplary action against the jail authorities of Jail No. 8/9 and expect the new Director General of Tihar Jail, who is said to have a good reputation for integrity and delivery, to initiate immediate action," he said. htc...
