JODHPUR, Feb. 1 -- Sonam Wangchuk, a climate activist from Ladakh who has been lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail for over four months, was taken for a health check-up under heavy security to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur, early Saturday .
Wangchuk was examined by the gastroenterology department at AIIMS. A senior official familiar with the development said the medical report will be submitted to the Supreme Court on Monday.
Wangchuk has been detained under the National Security Act (NSA) in connection with a case related to violence reported in Leh.
His wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, had earlier moved the Supreme Court, expressing serious concern over his health in jail. In her plea, she alleged that contaminated drinking water and lack of proper facilities in prison were affecting her husband's health.
Hearing the matter, the Supreme Court on January 29 directed the jail authorities to get Wangchuk examined by specialist doctors and place the medical report on record.
An official said Wangchuk had been complaining of abdominal pain and digestive problems for the past few days.
Police brought him to AIIMS at around 6.30am on Saturday, where a team of gastroenterologists and other specialist doctors conducted several medical tests. After nearly two hours of examination, he was taken back to the central jail....
