Jaipur, Feb. 21 -- The National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Indian National Congress, on Friday appointed Vinod Jakhar as its new national president. Jakhar, who is currently serving as NSUI's Rajasthan state president, will replace Varun Choudhary. The appointment order was issued by Congress general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal. A prominent young Dalit leader, Jakhar has previously served as president of the Rajasthan University Students' Union. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had personally conducted interviews for the NSUI national president's post in recent days. Jakhar's appointment is being seen as politically significant within the Congress, especially in Rajasthan. Known to be close to senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot, his elevation is viewed as a boost for Pilot's camp at the national level. Last year, on September 30, Jakhar was arrested in connection with alleged vandalism during an RSS "Shastra Pujan" event at Rajasthan University. He spent 17 days in jail before securing bail from the High Court on October 17, 2025. htc...
