top court junks contempt plea against state's chief secretary
Jaipur, Feb. 24 -- The Supreme Court of India on Monday dismissed a contempt petition filed by serving presidents and members of District Consumer Commissions in Rajasthan against the State's Chief Secretary alleging non-implementation of its earlier judgment safeguarding their tenure.
A bench comprising justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh declined to initiate contempt proceedings, holding that no case for wilful disobedience was made out. However, the Court granted liberty to the petitioners to approach the Rajasthan High Court if they have any surviving or individual grievances concerning continuation in service or enforcement of the earlier ruling, said additional advocate general Shiv Mangal Sharma.
The contempt petition was filed by eight serving officers of District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions in Rajasthan. They alleged non-compliance with the top court's judgment dated May 21, 2025.
After hearing submissions from the petitioners, the bench declined to proceed against the chief secretary for contempt and dismissed the plea.
