Once just a traditional covering, the veil has transformed into the ultimate statement piece, capturing the imagination of designers across the industry. From Manish Malhotra to Falguni Shane Peacock, almost every bridal couture designer is putting their creative focus on this humble element.
Bejewelled veils designed by Falguni Shane Peacock feature emerald stones that create the illusion of vintage jewels, while Manish Malhotra has leaned into intricate aari and zardozi embroidery, reviving heritage crafts through the veil. With such opulent, embroidered, and heavily bejewelled veils, the trend for the contemporary Indian bride is decidedly maximalist.
These veils have transcended their role as mere accessories to become cherished works of wearable art, each telling the bride's unique journey and love story. Designer Rina Dhaka explains, "Moving beyond simple borders, modern bridal veils or dupattas are being re-envisioned as wearable works of art, offering a grand, cinematic entrance that sets the tone for the entire celebration."
Adding to this, designer Shruti Sancheti notes, "Beyond text, bridal veils are now featuring bespoke motifs - from delicate butterflies and blooming 3D floral appliques to celestial patterns - making each piece truly one-of-a-kind."
