Suspected spy for ISI held in Jaisalmer, sent to 5-day police custody
Barmer/Jaisalmer, Feb. 1 -- Rajasthan police's Intelligence wing has arrested a man accused of allegedly spying for Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI in Jaisalmer on Friday, police said on Saturday.
According to officers aware of the matter, the accused, identified as Jhabraram (28), a resident of Sankda village in Pokaran was in continuous contact with ISI handlers through social media for the past 18-19 months. On Saturday afternoon around 12.30pm, the accused was produced before a local court, which sent him to five days of police custody for further interrogation.
During the initial investigation, officials recovered chat records and digital evidence from his mobile phone showing communication with ISI handlers.
The accused reportedly shared confidential military information in exchange for money, said officers, adding that he was paid Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000 per assigned task, with multiple transactions traced to his bank account.
Officers speaking on the condition of anonymity said that Jhabraram was reportedly "honey-trapped" and lured with money by Pakistani handlers.
He also allegedly shared OTP details of his SIM card with ISI operatives, enabling them to activate WhatsApp accounts used for espionage activities, said the officers quoted above.
They added that several crucial details were expected during questioning, including details about how many ISI handlers the accused was connected with and the extent of sensitive information shared....
