Stones pelted at police during raid on illegal mining, two cops injured
Bharatpur/Alwar, May 3 -- Mining mafias pelted stones at a police inspection team in Sariska Tiger Reserve, injuring two constables and damaging a vehicle, officers said, adding that 15 people have been booked in the incident.
According to the police, police on Thursday found miners operating in the reserve and launched a raid to seize two tractor trolleys loaded with limestone and marble.
The miners, backed by villagers, retaliated by hurling stones at the team, injuring constables Ramakant Gurjar and Lekhraj Gurjar. Police then impounded the two tractor trolleys and seized a drilling machine.
Tehla police station officer-in-charge Mukesh Kumar Meena said the police team conducted a raid against the mining mafia in Sariska Tiger Reserve.
Assistant sub-inspector Bhero Lal registered a complaint against the mining mafia for attacking the police.
A police team has been formed to search for and arrest the mining mafia, Meena said.
Chief conservator of forests Sangram Singh said the area lies outside forest boundaries, and the forest team was not present when the mining mafia attacked police....
