India, Feb. 6 -- As the cricket match between Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals in the Eliminator of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 took place on Tuesday, actor Sanya Malhotra delivered a mid-innings performance at the stadium, paying tribute to women athletes: "This was the first time I felt so good performing." The actor, who began her film career playing wrestler Babita Phogat in Dangal (2016), says that portraying a sportsperson on screen gave her a first-hand understanding of the discipline and rigour athletes live by. "I trained like an athlete for a year for that film. It completely changed my mindset towards fitness and discipline," she shares. Drawing parallels between her training and the lives of professional athletes, Sanya expresses: "The kind of discipline and routine women athletes follow, they're superheroes, honestly." She adds that watching women occupy positions of strength and visibility, both on the field and in her industry, continues to inspire her: "I get empowered by watching these women play every day. As an actor, I follow a disciplined life, but I would encourage women to be unapologetically themselves. Try whatever you feel like trying. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it."...
