Jaipur, Feb. 22 -- The BJP and Congress locked horns in the assembly over the scope of a performance review discussion on Saturday, with the Opposition accusing the government of backing out from a comparative debate on governance records. The controversy began when parliamentary affairs minister Jogaram Patel moved a motion seeking discussion on the government's two-year performance report. Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully objected, stating that it had been agreed earlier that the debate would compare "two years versus five years" - referring to the current BJP government's two-year tenure against the previous Congress government's five-year term. He claimed that the same format had been decided in the Business Advisory Committee. Patel and Government Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg rejected the Opposition's objections, insisting the motion was in order. Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra cited a February 5 statement by CM Bhajan Lal Sharma in the House, asserting that the chief minister had himself announced a "2 years versus 5 years" debate. "This proposal undermines the chief minister's own statement. If his words carry no value, then what are we doing here?" Dotasra remarked, triggering sharp exchanges between the Treasury and Opposition benches. The verbal duel between Patel and Dotasra soon escalated into chaos, with Congress MLAs trooping into the Well of the House and raising slogans. Amid persistent disruptions, the Speaker adjourned proceedings. As the standoff continued, both the BJP and Congress accused each other of running away from a direct comparison of governance records. Jully alleged that the government was attempting to avoid a "five years versus two years" face-off and was shifting the blame onto the Opposition. "If you want a debate, move a motion comparing five years with two. Why restrict it to only two years?" In response, ministers Avinash Gehlot and Jawahar Bedham accused Congress members of cowardice and of trying to evade debate. Jully reiterated that the Opposition wanted a head-to-head comparison of the BJP's two years with Congress's five years. Earlier in the day, during the debate on the Revenue Department's grant demands, Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLAs entered wearing T-shirts demanding a CBI probe into alleged paper leaks and irregularities in recruitment examinations and raised slogans. BAP MLA Thawarchand accused the government of failing to act against those responsible for recruitment scams....
