Udaipur, Sept. 14 -- A principal and vice principal of a government school in Bhilwara district were slotted for transfer on Saturday after a group of villagers allegedly assaulted them, officials said, adding that the villagers accused the men of allegedly promoting atheistic practices in the school. Chief block education officer (CBEO) Satyanarayan Nagar confirmed the development. "Both the principal Shyamlal Sen and vice principal Ranveer Singh Indoria have been given APO (awaiting postal order) status after several allegations that they have been teaching students about the non-existence of God were received in the last two days," he said. The CBEO added that a departmental inquiry had been initiated against the men. Officials said that a group of local villagers forcefully entered Sen's office and started assaulting the two men. "They accused the two teachers of restraining students from practicing any religion," said Bagore station house officer Bhanwar Lal Jatt. "Indoria and Sen mainly taught students from classes five to eight," he added. Police said that a team was sent to the location and detained Indoria under section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). "However, we released him after the situation came under control as no FIR was also formally lodged yet," said Jatt. None of the people who allegedly assaulted the two men have been booked, officials confirmed. As of the time of going to print, principal Shyamlal Sen did not respond to HT's repeated requests for comment....
