JODHPUR, Feb. 15 -- The state high court has directed the police to provide immediate protection to a Bikaner family that allegedly received death threats from gangster Rohit Godara and ordered a fair and impartial inquiry into the matter.
The directions were issued by a single bench of justice Farjand Ali on Friday while hearing a criminal writ petition filed by Altaf Bano and others.
Counsel Saurav Shekhar submitted that in 2016, then police officer Sanjay Bothra allegedly illegally arrested members of the petitioners' family. When Altaf Bano approached the police station to inquire about them, she and her relatives were allegedly assaulted. A complaint was subsequently filed, and on Sept. 27, 2018, the chief judicial magistrate, Bikaner, took cognizance of the offences against Bothra.
The petitioners alleged that Bothra later pressured them to enter into a compromise. In December 2025, gangster Rohit Godara allegedly made WhatsApp calls to one of the petitioners, demanding withdrawal of the criminal proceedings. Complaints were submitted to senior police officials seeking protection, but no action was taken, the court was told.
In its order, the court noted that the police had acknowledged that threats were extended by a "hardened criminal/gangster."
The court directed the concerned SP to ensure adequate and continuous protection to the family.HTC...
