NCPCR takes note of deaths of two infants
Jaipur, March 14 -- The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken suo-motu cognisance of the deaths of two infants in a brick kiln in Udaipur last week after their parents were not allowed to go to a hospital.
In a letter to the district collector of Udaipur on Thursday, NCPCR, said, "The commission has received a complaint from Dr Shailendra Pandya regarding possible bonded labour and involvement of children in a brick kiln in Mavli block, Udaipur, Rajasthan where around 50 labourers are working in inhumane condition. The complaint also refers to a media report of two infants' death in the labour settlement, raising concern regarding the living conditions and possible violation of child protection laws."
It directed the collector to launch a probe into the matter. "In view of the above, the commission deems it appropriate to take cognizance under section 13(1)(j) of CPCR Act, 2005 and request your good office to initiate inquiry and take necessary action for care and protection of the child. It is also requested that an action report be sent to the commission in 7 days."...
