Jaipur, Oct. 26 -- Sachin Mittal, a 1997 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, took charge as the new police commissioner of Jaipur city on Saturday. "I am thankful to the government for keeping faith in me and giving me such an important responsibility. My focus would be to encourage and strengthen the police stations so that most of the complaints get solved there only without any senior intervention," Mittal said. "I have met all the officers in the commissionerate. I will also meet the officials from all zones of Jaipur commissionerate and identify which areas need more attention and resources. Work will be done accordingly." Referring to the rising cyber crime issues, he also said, "We need more resources to combat these criminals. Cyber crime is changing its pattern daily which is our biggest challenge. We have a separate team at the commissionerate to address this issue. We have sought more resources from the government which is expected to be approved soon." Mittal also stated that he will continue the weekly public hearing process, an initiative which was started by the his predecessor Biju George Joseph. "This process left a huge impact in resolving issues and curbing crimes in the city. We have also noticed that chain snatching and drug smuggling cases are also rising in Jaipur. Our task forces are working on it. We are also organising several awareness campaigns," he said. Addressing the media, Mittal also said he will increase intense patrolling, beat policing and community policing in the city. Mittal, who has been serving as the additional director general of the recruitment and promotion board since June 2023, had earlier served as IG of Jodhpur range and commissioner in Jodhpur city. He also served as the SP in five districts. Biju George Joseph will be the new ADG of personnel department.
