Gurjar sit-in ends as govt assures action
Bharatpur, April 9 -- Protesters from the Gurjar community ended their sit-in at Peelupura on Wednesday after the district administration assured action on 372 pending appointments from the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET), marking a temporary respite in a seven-year agitation.
The dharna, launched to press for the appointments of 372 REET candidates, was withdrawn following positive talks between a Gurjar delegation and the district administration, said a Gurjar leader.
The administration had called leaders from the Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti for discussions, where both sides agreed to resolve the issue.
Gurjar leader Himmat Singh said, "A total of 372 youths of REET have been agitating for appointments for seven years but no solution has been considered by the government," Singh said.
"A promise was made by the three ministers of the government where a compromise was made between the government and Gurjar leader Vijay Bainsla. We want to know what was the reason behind failing to fulfill the promise," Singh said.
The delegation decided to engage the government until May 1. If the ultimatum passes without resolution, the community will launch a fresh agitation, Singh said....
