Ex-DGP booked for engaging in election brawl
Jaipur, Jan. 11 -- An FIR has been lodged on Saturday against the former director general of police, Ravi Prakash Meharda, along with his brother and over a dozen people for allegedly engaging in a brawl to disturb the executive election of a state-level Dalit society in Rajasthan.
DSP of Gandhinagar circle, Narayan Bajiya said, "Meharda and his brother themselves are part of the organisation. The incident took place on Wednesday when the executive election of the society took place. However, another group of the organisation has now alleged that Meharda and his brother accused them of fraudulently winning the election, gathered their supporters, and barred the winning members of the new executive committee from entering. They also allegedly thrashed the women during the brawl."
"They had also verbally abused them and also threatened to kill them when the opposite group had been urging them to open the gate. The matter immediately escalated to a tense situation as both groups engaged into a brawl," said Bajiya.
On Saturday, the other society group including the winning members-led by Debdatta Singh lodged an FIR against them.
Meharda also lodged a counter FIR against them for beating him and his brother. He said, "The entire election process was forged as me and my brother were not allowed to file our nominations. There was also false votes. When we opposed, they started beating us."...
