ED to probe midday meal irregularities
Jaipur, Jan. 11 -- The Enforcement Directorate is set to register a money laundering case to probe alleged irregularities worth Rs.2,000 crore in the implementation of the mid-day meal scheme in Rajasthan under the previous Congress government, officials said on Saturday.
A senior ACB officer said, "ED, on Saturday, took a copy of the ACB's FIR for their review. They might launch a simultaneous probe in the case and also launch a fresh FIR. However, ED had already conducted a few raids including one at former minister Rajendra Yadav's house on September 26, 2023 in connection to this scam."
In 2023, ED searched at around 10 places linked to the minister and his relatives' residences, companies, and factories in Kotputli, Jaipur, Behror, and Viratnagar. Locations linked to Yadav's close aides- including one of the main accused in the case, Kamaljit Ranawat, were also reportedly searched, local officials said.
"During the Covid-19 pandemic, when schools across Rajasthan remained closed, the state government arranged the supply of foodgrains to school students under the State Mid-Day Meal Scheme through CONFED. Combo packs containing pulses, edible oil, spices and other items were supplied, with claims that the material met FSSAI and AGMARK standards and was delivered door-to-door to schools," it said.
