Ajmer, April 28 -- A local court has ordered the issuance of arrest warrants against then resident doctor Khushboo Jain and the then assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Dewaram Godara in the case of a patient's death during treatment in 2020 at the JLN Hospital in Ajmer. The Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate (First Class) rejected the Final Report (FR) submitted by the police, observing that the investigation appeared to be "tainted and defective." The court held that prima facie a case of serious medical negligence and improper investigation was made out, warranting further legal proceedings. The magistrate also directed the inspector general of police, Ajmer Range, to initiate a departmental inquiry against the then investigating officer ASI Dewaram Godara for alleged negligence and causing legal harm to the complainant. The court has sought a compliance report before the next hearing scheduled for June 4. The complainant and the wife of the deceased in the case, Sarita Bhatnagar, had filed a protest petition challenging the police FR. Police earlier justified filing the FR by stating cross cases were registered by both parties and the complainant had provided written consent to take the deceased's body without legal formalities. However, the court accepted the protest petition and passed its order on April 18. Prabhas Bhatnagar (55) died during treatment on October 27, 2020.
