Jaipur, Feb. 2 -- The Union Budget for 2026-27 has generated mixed reactions in the state. In an official statement from the chief minister's office, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma hailed the Budget, referring to it as a budget "that lives up to the hopes and aspirations of the people". As far as the state was concerned, Sharma highlighted the announcements made regarding mega textile parks, 200 industrial clusters, and the solar and mining sectors as of particular benefit to Rajasthan. He also highlighted the loan-linked capital subsidy support scheme to increase development of veterinary infrastructure in the animal husbandry sector as another major benefit to the state. Allocations for the VB-G RAM G Act were raised to Rs.95,692 crore. Sharma also highlighted the incentives to the semiconductor sector, as well as those for data centres and cloud services. The budget has "further strengthened Rajasthan's integration into the mainstream of development," said the statement. Opposition leaders, however, raised several concerns with the budget, criticising it for neglecting the state's development needs, overlooking key projects such as the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) and failing to provide sufficient support to farmers, the poor and those in search of employment. Former Congress chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that the absence of any mention of the state in the budget speech reflected a "step-motherly treatment" on the part of the Centre."Overall, despite the double engine, this budget has proved to be a damp squib," he said. Former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot said the budget displayed the absence of a clear roadmap for employment and a lack of transparency regarding past announcements. "This is an election budget- no concrete steps have been taken towards truly balanced development, and it is limited merely to election promises for the coming days." Rampal Jat, chief of the Kisan Mahapanchayat, criticised the budget for favouring the wealthy while neglecting farmers, highlighting the absence of a legal MSP guarantee , limited investment in irrigation, village industries, and rural employment,....
