BJP issues notice to Anta by-election candidate
Jaipur, Feb. 4 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday issued a notice to the party's Anta bypoll candidate Morpal Suman, a day after he accused Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and several other key party leaders of sabotaging the election last year.
"You have allegedly circulated a report levelling baseless allegations against a slew of veteran and dutiful leaders of the party regarding the Anta by-election 2025 without any substantial evidence. Our party constitution allows a worker to put his points before the concerned people but you have tarnished the image of the party. This is a sheer violation of the party's discipline," the party's state president Madan Rathore said in the notice issued to Suman.
The party also asked him to respond to the notice and clarify his action in three days.
The development comes a day after a letter from Suman, titled as "Review report of the defeat in Anta by-election", began circulating on social media. The letter purportedly detailed the involvement of a slew of leaders, including Speaker Birla, at sabotaging the election.
Suman, in his letter to Baran district president of BJP Naresh Singh Sikarwar, pointed out the delay in announcing his candidature and internal conflict among party leaders as the two big reasons behind his defeat.
"The entire team of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had directly and indirectly worked against me. Some lonesome transactions were also made to several leaders to influence the voters against me that favoured the Congress candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya," said the letter, which HT has seen.
He also accused state power minister Hiralal Nagar's business partner Manoj Sharma Sangod, former MLA Hemraj Meena along with three current MLAs from Baran -- Lalit Meena, Pratap Singhvi, and Radheshyam Bairwa -- of influencing voters and favouring the Congress candidates in exchange for money.
Suman did not respond to HT's calls for comments on the matter....
