BJP discontinued Cong govt's schemes: Gehlot
Jaipur, April 12 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government of closing most of the welfare schemes and policies started by the Congress government.
As part of his ongoing series titled 'Intezaar-shastra' on X, he said, "(PM Narendra) Modi's guarantees are real or misleading? PM promised that the BJP government will not close any schemes or policies started by the Congress government if they come to the power. But we have witnessed the reality of this promise."
He further accused the BJP government of taking a political revenge. "They have closed one after another key projects started by us. It is directly affecting the public now. People can now see the actual differences between Modi's guarantees and its ground reality. The BJP government in Rajasthan has failed all the guarantees. People of Rajasthan are innocent. They have trusted them. But now they will never forgive them," he said, referring to the previous chapters of the series in the last few weeks.
A day after the announcement of PM Modi's arrival in Rajasthan on April 21, Gehlot, on Friday launched a sharp attack on the BJP over the Pachpadra refinery project, calling it a "mega chapter of 'Intezaarshastra' (politics of delay)" and accusing successive BJP governments of doing "grave injustice" to the people of Rajasthan.
Gehlot alleged that the project had imposed an unnecessary financial burden on the public, pointing out that its cost had escalated from Rs.37,229 crore to nearly Rs.80,000 crore. He further claimed that the BJP deliberately delayed the project by over seven years for "credit-taking politics."
Earlier, he also slammed the government for the unfinished works of the Jaipur International Cricket Stadium at Chonp village, Civil Lines railway overbridge (ROB) project, development of Chambal river front in Kota, Rajasthan state sports institute, Marwar Medical University, and Mahatma Gandhi Social Sciences Institute, and also the delay in the promised 10,000 recruitments in the education department.
Hitting back, BJP Rajya Sabha MP, Rajendra Gehlot asked Gehlot to highlight the failures of his own government. "The ones who must hide their own faces for their failure must not comment on others work. Public is aware of everything and they will never forgive him. Gehlot failed to allocate a proper location and lands for the Pachpadra refinery during his second tenure. He hurriedly laid foundation stone of the project only to gain some claps," he said.
Rajendra said that the project gained momentum after the BJP returned to the power. "During his entire tenure last time, his focus was more on saving his chair than development works. His leadership was limited only to travelling from Jaipur to Delhi frequently."
He said that the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led government made the refinery project its first priority after coming to power in 2023. "This is the only reason that this project reached its final stage and the PM is going to inaugurate it this month."...
