4.18mn names deleted from electoral rolls in SIR: Official
Jaipur, Dec. 17 -- At least 4.18 million names of voters have been removed from the first draft roll of the special intensive revision (SIR) in Rajasthan which was published on Tuesday.
"This chunk of voters were either dead, permanently shifted to a different state, found absent, or have been traced in multiple places (duplicate)," said an official from the election department.
According to the primary data shared by the department, At least 4,184,819 people's names from the current voter lists have been removed during the exercise.
Of the total, at least, 875,398 (1.60%) have been found dead, 2,480,417 (5.43%) were permanently shifted, 457,502 (0.84%) were found absent during the house-to-house survey, 344,089 (0.63%) names were duplicated, and 27,485 (0.05%) names were also removed due to some other reasons.
Although compiled data for the district-wise breakup is yet not available at the time of writing this report, Jaipur district collectorate stated that 536,276 voters have been removed from the district's current voter list in the first draft roll.
The additional district magistrate (ADM), Meghraj Meena, said: "Of these, 74,038 found dead, 339,490 found permanently shifted, 33,733 absent, 84,888 names found duplicated in multiple places, and 4,127 have been deleted for some other reasons."
SIR, in Rajasthan, was started on November 4 across 199 constituencies except for Anta where a bypoll took place on November 11.
These 199 constituencies had 54,656,215 voters all of whom were served an enumeration form. However, 50,471,396 have been collected. The digitisation process in the state ended on December 6.
Officials also said that over 1.1 million voters also could not be mapped to the 2002 SIR list who will now have to produce documents to prove their eligibility. "Following the digitisation, the department maps a voter with the 2002 SIR list to check whether any of their parents' names already exist in the old list. Any of these 1.1 million voters' roots could not be traced to the previous list," said the chief electoral officer Naveen Mahajan. "We have also received over 200,000 Form 6 to include new electors which will be added in the final electoral rolls after an inquiry," he said.
Now, the department has also opened a window till January 15, 2026 where the people and political parties may raise any claims and objections. "A draft copy of the electoral roll has already been shared with the BLAs of the political parties. They will now review the list and raise objections for inclusion of eligible names or deletions of ineligible names. A total of 199 EROs and 850 AEROs are in position to scrutinise such cases," he said.
According to the CEO, at least 48.8 million of voters have already been mapped who will not have to produce any document....
