34-yr-old held for suspected espionage: cops
Barmer/Jaisalmer, Jan. 28 -- A 34-year-old man was detained late on Sunday in Jaisalmer district for suspected espionage, just hours before the 77th Republic Day celebrations, police said.
According to people aware of the matter, Jhabararam Meghwal, a resident of Nehadan village, was suspected of sharing sensitive and strategically important information with someone in Pakistan through social media. Preliminary inputs have also pointed to possible financial transactions linked to Pakistan. "A technical team from Jaipur arrived at the Sankra police station area of Jaisalmer and took the accused for further questioning. Investigation is ongoing," said Jaisalmer SP Abhishek Shivhare.
Intelligence sources close to the development said the accused was allegedly in contact with a Pakistani woman and may have been honey-trapped, following which confidential information of strategic importance was shared.
CID intelligence teams seized Jhabararam's mobile phone and computer for forensic examination and took him to Jaipur for further interrogation....
