3 killed in rain incidents; IMD issues alert in 11 distts
Jaipur/ Ajmer, May 4 -- Three people have been killed due to different rain-related incidents in Ajmer, Tonk, and Jaipur while 14 others were also injured in Dausa when a high-tension line collapsed on a house and set it ablaze, officials said.
The high-tension line collapsed on a house on Sunday morning following which it caught fire and 14 people sustained burn injuries, police said, adding that they are being treated in the district hospital.
According to the officials, a 36-year-old man was burnt alive after a high-tension line collapsed on his running two-wheeler in Jaipur's Jaisinghpura area on Saturday night.
In Tonk, a tree also fell on a 66-year-old man on Saturday leading to his death on the spot.
Meanwhile, a powerful early-morning storm on Sunday triggered the collapse of dilapidated BPL housing quarters in the Lohagal area of Ajmer city. The incident occurred in the Panchsheel locality, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to her husband, sparking panic and public anger in the area.
According to police, the accident took place around 4.00 am when strong winds and a sudden storm caused four structurally weak quarters to collapse simultaneously. Sonu (35) died on the spot after being trapped under the debris, while her husband Deepak (40) sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Authorities stated that three of the four quarters were vacant at the time, preventing a larger tragedy.
The BPL quarters had been allotted by the administration to economically weaker families, particularly members of the Gadariya Lohar community who were earlier living along roadside areas. However, only a few allotted families currently reside there, while several units have reportedly been rented out.
Local residents alleged that many quarters had long been in a dangerous condition and complaints were repeatedly submitted to authorities, but no concrete action was taken. Residents said timely intervention could have prevented the tragedy.
Following the incident, Krishn Ganj police reached the spot and assessed the situation. Station house officer Arvind Singh Charan confirmed that police received information about the house collapse around 4.00 am.
The deceased woman's body has been sent to the mortuary for post-mortem examination, while the injured man remains under medical treatment, police said. Further investigation is underway.
