Agra, July 9 -- At least 29 people were killed and nearly two dozen injured when an Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus fell into a drain on the Yamuna Expressway near Agra early on Monday after the driver fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle, police said.

The accident occurred around 4.30 am in Etmadpur, around 200 km from the national Capital, state officials said.

Local police said they suspect that the driver dozed off behind the wheel and lost control on the vehicle, which then fell into a large drain.

"The accident took place at about 4.30am on Monday... Prima facie it appears the driver dozed off and lost control of the bus. Out of the passengers onboard, 29, including the driver, were killed," said ...
