2 pvt bank employees held for stealing gold worth Rs.6.50 cr: Cops
Bharatpur/Jhunjhunu, Feb. 7 -- Two employees with a private bank were arrested on Friday for allegedly stealing gold worth Rs.6.50 crore from the bank's Nawalgarh branch and replacing it with counterfeit gold, police said.
They were charged with allegedly stealing 4.198 kilograms of gold in total, they added.
According to Jhunjhunu superintendent of police, Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay, the men in custody, identified as branch manager Amit Jangid and business correspondent Santosh Kumar Saini, were among three employees booked on the basis of a complaint by a senior manager.
The other accused in the case was identified as deputy manager Anant Prakash Chaudhary, he said.
Saini was arrested in Jhunhjhunu district itself on Thursday while Jangid was arrested from Mathura railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, he added.
Anant Prakash Chaudhary is currently still absconding and police are searching for him, said the SP.
According to the complaint against the accused, the theft surfaced on January 28 when deputy manager Seema Mehla took charge of the gold safe in the bank and found irregularities in its contents. Senior bank officials subsequently conducted an internal enquiry into the matter, which spurred the complaint, which noted that Jangid and Anant Prakash Chaudhary had keys to the strong room .
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, said police officers aware of the matter....
