Barmer, Nov. 26 -- Fifteen months after the murder of Mandoli Nagar resident Ganpat Singh, the police have still not arrested any accused, triggering widespread anger across Jalore. Demanding justice, his 80-year-old mother has been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past nine days outside the Jalore Collectorate. Along with her, four other family members-including Ganpat Singh's wife, brother and sisters-in-law-have also joined the hunger strike. As frustration grows, members of the Rajput community and people from nearly 36 other communities have launched a massive protest in support of the family. From Tuesday, the protest site outside the Collectorate has turned into a large-scale sit-in demonstration drawing people from multiple villages. In the afternoon, protest representatives submitted a memorandum addressed to chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma through district collector Dr. Pradeep K. Gawande. Jalore Vyapar Mandal president Jalam Singh said local traders stand with the victim's family and are prepared to shut down their establishments whenever needed until justice is delivered. Rajput youth leader Bhawani Singh, while addressing protesters, expressed disappointment with the administration. He said, "despite nine days of hunger strike, neither the Collector nor the Superintendent of Police had met the family." Singh's wife Bharti Kanwar has earlier written to Union home minister Amit Shah demanding that the investigation be handed over to the CBI. Jalore-Sirohi MP Lumbaram Choudhary also visited the protest on Monday. He openly expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of the investigation and instructed local police to reapply for narco analysis tests and intensify interrogation. He also directed the Collector and SP to personally monitor progress. Ganpat Singh, 42, went missing on the evening of August 27, 2024 while returning home from his shop. His body was discovered the next day on a deserted section of the Sikwara Road, with head injuries and his motorcycle lying nearby. Jalore, SP Shaildendra Singh said an SIT was formed and the case would be solved soon....
