Bharatpur, Feb. 4 -- At least 12 people were booked in connection with the axing of 159 trees, including 12 Khejri trees, and levelling forest land in Bharatpur district, police said on Tuesday. According to police, the trees were axed in the Khareri Bagrain forest area under Bayana Sadar police station. Based on a complaint filed by assistant forester Kunwar Singh last week, a case has been lodged against 12 people from the Naya Nagla village under relevant sections of the Rajasthan Forest Act, 1953. Among the trees axed are: 12 Khejri, 71 white Khair, 48 Rohida, 10 Babool, six Papri, nine Birbiri, two Peelu, and pme Hingota.
