r-day triggers airspace curbs over the capital
New Delhi, Jan. 14 -- The Airports Authority of India announced airspace restrictions over Delhi and a 300 km radius from January 21 to 26. Citing NOTAMs, an official said, "the Delhi airspace would be shut from 10am to 12:15pm between January 21 and January 25." On January 26, operations at Delhi airport are suspended from 8.30am to 1pm and 3pm to 7pm, with additional restrictions from 3pm to 7pm on January 29. The restrictions are for Republic Day security.
A second official stated scheduled flights can use approved routes with altitude limits: "Aircraft will be allowed to overfly the 300-km restricted zone only above flight level 290, except over the VIP air corridor." Exemptions apply to Indian Air Force, BSF, ARC, medical helicopters, and state aircraft carrying governors or chief ministers. Long-range aerial vehicles in the radius is prohibited.HTC...
