Bikaner, Feb. 7 -- The agitation which began in Bikaner to protect Rajasthan's state tree, Khejri, has now spread to Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar and Jalore, with protests being organised across multiple districts. Protesters say the movement will continue until a comprehensive state-wide law is enacted to prevent felling of the ecologically significant tree. At its peak, the indefinite fast saw participation from around 537 protesters. Organisers said the agitation will not be withdrawn until legal safeguards are enacted. Women participants at the sit-in said the movement would intensify if a ban is not implemented. In Jalore's Sanchore, Bishnoi community members began a relay hunger strike on Friday, supported by the local auto taxi union and the Bar Association. In Hanumangarh, the All India Khet and Rural Labour Union launched "Save Khejri, Save Environment" campaign, staging an indefinite dharna outside collector's office. Protesters demanded stringent anti-felling legislation, a halt to land allocations for solar projects that may threaten tree cover, and land distribution for the landless....
