Karnal, Jan. 10 -- Haryana vigilance bureau has arrested the assistant welfare officer (AWO) of labour department for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs.40,000 from a beneficiary to help her get benefits of the Mukhya Mantri Vivah Shagun Yojana. The accused is Surender Kumar, who was posted at the Karnal labour department. He was caught red-handed with Rs.40,000 taken as bribe on Wednesday. Karnal superintendent of police (SP) (vigilance) Shyam Lal Sharma said they had got a complaint from Kavita Rani of Churni village alleging that the accused was demanding Rs.40,000 to accord approval to her file so that she could get Rs.1 lakh under the scheme for the marriage of her cousin.
