Ggm industries flag fresh entry tax burden
Chandigarh, April 2 -- The Gurgaon Chamber of Commerce & Industry has urged the Haryana government to intervene against fresh assessment notices and tax demands issued under Haryana Tax on Entry of Goods into Local Areas Act, 2008, calling them retrospective and burdensome.
GCCI president Vikas Jain said the Act was repealed in July 2017 following GST rollout. "This is not a case of pending litigation or continuation of earlier proceedings. No assessment notices or demands were issued during the relevant years when the law was in force. . Businesses are now being asked to produce records dating back 8-9 years, documents that may no longer be readily available," Jain said.
State officials declined to comment, citing the matter is under litigation. The Excise and Taxation Department has issued notices citing a Supreme Court judgement upholding the 2008 Act.
The Chamber warned reopening assessments after such a long gap could lead to "best judgement" assessments, calling them unjust. It urged halting fresh proceedings and withdrawing demands raised in 2025-26, clarifying the representation does not cover notices issued prior to June 2017 still pending adjudication.htc...
