Mussoorie, Jan. 28 -- The higher reaches of Uttarakhand on Tuesday received fresh spell of snowfall, while several low-lying areas recorded rainfall at isolated places, disrupting daily life across parts of the Garhwal and Kumaon regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday in Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusty winds. Pilgrim centres including Gangotri, Badrinath, Kedarnath and Yamunotri received light snowfall, while intermittent rain was reported from districts such as Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Nainital, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. Chamoli disaster management officer, NK Joshi, said light to moderate snowfall was recorded at the Badrinath shrine and higher reaches such as Malari. "If the prevailing weather conditions persist, more snowfall is expected in these areas," he said. Light to moderate rainfall is expected at a few places in the Kumaon region, while snowfall is likely in high-altitude areas above 2,500 metres.HTC...
