Gurugram, April 4 -- A fire broke out in a three-storey building in Udyog Vihar Phase 1 on Friday morning and 18 workers trapped inside the building were rescued, police said. Officials said the fire started at a commercial flour mill and packaging firm in the basement of the building due to a short-circuit and it spread to all upper floors. Fire department officials said the flames destroyed the rubber and other inflammable items which resulted in dense smoke filling up the basement and ground floor of the building. Udyog Vihar fire station officer Ram Karan Sharma said that four fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze. "We received alert about the fire by 11.22am and it was brought under control and was doused within an hour. Those trapped on the first and second floor were evacuated with the help of ladders. However, five workers were trapped inside the basement whose condition had deteriorated due to smoke inhalation," he said. Sandeep Turan, public relations officer of Gurugram police said the rescue team broke the glasses of the building to help the trapped employees. "Soon, fire fighters also reached the spot who carried out their search and rescue work to ensure no one else was left inside," he said....
