Chemical factory raided, huge stock of hazardous acids seized
Meerut, Jan. 29 -- A joint team of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, the Groundwater Department, and the police carried out a late-night raid on Tirupati Chemical Factory in the Sikandrabad industrial area of Bulandshahr on Tuesday evening, uncovering a large quantity of hazardous chemicals illegally stored on the premises.
During the inspection, officials recovered substantial stocks of sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid, both classified as extremely dangerous chemicals. According to Pollution Control Board officials, the raid was conducted following complaints about unlawful chemical storage at the factory.
Authorities expressed serious concern that leakage from the factory could contaminate groundwater in nearby areas. In view of the potential environmental and public health risks, groundwater samples have been collected and sent for laboratory testing. Officials warned that confirmation of contamination could have severe consequences for the health of local residents.
Following the recovery, the administration sealed the factory with immediate effect. An FIR was registered against the factory owner under the environment protection act, and further legal proceedings have been initiated.
