Army aspirant alleges rape attempt by TTE
LUCKNOW, Feb. 19 -- A woman NCC cadet preparing for Army recruitment has accused a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) of attempting to rape her aboard the Ahmedabad-Gorakhpur Express between Indara and Deoria on the night of February 15, officials said on Tuesday. The accused identified as Rahul Kumar is currently absconding, they added.
According to a complaint lodged with the Government Railway Police (GRP), the woman had travelled to Mau from Gorakhpur to appear for her NCC 'C' Certificate examination. A native of Mau, the woman resides in a rented accommodation in Gorakhpur while preparing for Army recruitment. Due to heavy rush at the station while returning, she could not purchase a ticket and boarded an AC coach.
The woman stated in her complaint that she was standing inside the AC coach when the TTE approached her and inquired about her identity and travel details. After learning that she was an NCC cadet, he allegedly assured her that she would be provided a seat on payment of requisite fine. However, she alleged that the accused instead took her to an AC-I cabin where he bolted the door and sexually assaulted her. He allegedly threatened to book her for ticketless travel case if she approached police.
However, the woman raised an alarm and dialled 112. Following this, the accused reportedly deboarded the train at Deoria station and fled.
When she reached Gorakhpur, the woman lodged a formal complaint at the GRP police station. The case was subsequently transferred to Deoria for jurisdictional reasons.
GRP SP Laxmi Niwas Mishra said that an FIR had been registered against the TTE for rape attempt and efforts were underway to arrest the accused, a resident of Bihar....
