Airport Express Line operations hit after cable theft attempt
new delhi, Jan. 12 -- Operations on the Airport Express Line between Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25 and New Delhi remained disrupted for the entire day on Sunday after an alleged attempt to steal signalling cables in the early hours. Trains were run manually at a reduced speed of around 25 kmph, compared with the usual 100-120 kmph, from 7 am, officials said.
Around 800 metres of signalling cables were damaged, affecting services between Dhaula Kuan and Shivaji Stadium stations.
Anuj Dayal, principal executive director, corporate communications at DMRC, said, "The cable theft disrupted the signalling system," and that restoration would occur overnight. The cut cables were recovered near the tracks. Dayal added, "DMRC deeply regrets the inconvenience." This follows a pattern; since June 2024, at least 89 cable thefts, stealing 22km of copper wire, were reported across the network, most commonly on the Red Line....
