Dehradun, Feb. 28 -- Dehradun Police and the special task force (STF) arrested two alleged members of the Sunil Rathi gang for extorting money on his behalf by interfering in several disputed land matters in Dehradun and Haridwar, police said on Friday. The accused were identified as Bhanu Chaudhary, a resident of Saharanpur, and Paras Singh, a resident of Muzaffarnagar. Police said two illegal .32 bore pistols and seven live cartridges were recovered from their possession. According to officials, Paras is facing at least eight criminal cases in Dehradun and Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. Senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal said: "On the basis of technical and manual inputs received during surveillance, a joint team of the STF, Uttarakhand, and the Dehradun Police, during checking on February 26, arrested two members of the Sunil Rathi gang from a suspicious Scorpio vehicle in the Rajpur area, with two illegal pistols and seven live cartridges. A case was registered against the accused at Rajpur police station under sections 111(3) of the BNS (abetting, attempting, conspiring or knowingly facilitating the commission of organised crime) and 3/25 of the Arms Act." "During interrogation of the arrested accused, it was revealed that Paras was formerly a key shooter for the gangs of Mukhtar Ansari and Sanjeev Jiva and, after their deaths, joined the Sunil Rathi gang.
