'Some suspects aimed for large-scale violence'
Gurugram, April 11 -- Police on Friday said it had found evidence that some suspects were planning to use the wage hike protests at IMT Manesar to incite large-scale violence, including targeted attacks on top management. However, the Haryana representative of the Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) said it was unlikely that the workers, without union, would do so.
Virender Saini, assistant commissioner of police (Manesar), said that workers who were part of Whatsapp groups had provided police with screenshots of conversations after the law and order was restored in Manesar on Thursday evening where such conspiracies to cause violence during the protest were being discussed. "Some of the elements had asked those actively taking part in the protest to arrange petrol or other inflammable substances which clearly establishes that they were planning large scale violence which could not take place as police managed to disperse those involved in violence," he said. One WhatsApp group in which workers from multiple companies, where protest and violence had taken place, were members. Police said conversations were of Wednesday night and screenshots provided to them after violence ended. HT could not independently verify the authenticity of the screenshots.
Police said Section 61(criminal conspiracy) of BNS is included in the two FIRs and these messages and violence plans are being investigated under the same.
DCP (Manesar) Prabina P said they are trying to trace and arrest these elements.
Jai Bhagwan, the general secretary of CITU's Haryana state committee, said it was "possible" that these factory workers, who didn't have any union, would plan violence at large scale in an organised manner....
