Relief for Celina as HC directs MEA to appoint lawyer for her brother
India, Feb. 5 -- After 16 months of her brother Major Vikrant Jaitly's (Retd) detainment in the UAE, actor Celina Jaitly has won a key legal directive from the Delhi High Court (HC) in her long-running bid to get him proper representation.
The HC on Tuesday ordered the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to issue an authorisation appointing Al Maree Partners, a Dubai-based law firm, to represent Vikrant in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The firm has agreed to take the case on a pro bono basis.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav also directed the MEA to file an affidavit if there was any obstacle to issuing the order and set the next hearing for February 10. Vikrant was detained in September, 2024
Celina announced the update on Instagram, writing, "Today, our soldier's dignity has been upheld by the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi... I placed my faith in the able hands of MEA to take my brother's case forward before the honourable UAE courts... Together, with the steadfast support of the MEA, I truly believe we'll bring back our soldier who gave his entire youth in service to our nation."
