umbai's Mahalaxmi Racecourse did not just host Day 1 of Lollapalooza India 2026, it pulsed through it. From the first beat to the final roar, the opening night swung between emotional singalongs and bass-heavy chaos, setting the tone for a weekend that already feels bigger than the line-up on paper. If there was one set that felt like a conversation with the crowd, it was YUNGBLUD. The British singer-songwriter arrived with raw intensity, but what really landed was the warmth. "India, I absolutely love you. Every time I come here, the love feels unreal," he told the audience. And he did not just say it, he showed it, stepping into the crowd mid-performance, turning the moment into something intimate and unfiltered. Then came the kind of festival memory people carry home. Spotting a banner from a young fan, Soham, asking if he could play air guitar, YUNGBLUD pulled him on stage, and the audience erupted. He closed with Changes, a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne. Then, American rapper Playboi Carti hit the main stage like a switch flipping, dark visuals, heavy bass, and a crowd ready to move. "India, are you ready?" he asked, and the answer came in the form of mosh pits opening up across the grounds. When the song FE!N dropped, the energy spiked instantly, voices screaming lyrics back, the kind of chaos that still feels oddly controlled because everyone is in on it. Joined by Opium collective members Destroy Lonely and Homixide Gang, Carti ran through mega tracks. Beyond the headliners, Day 1 stayed stacked with moments: Fujii Kaze brought hush and heart with Shinunoga E-Wa, Knock2 kept the pace high, The Midnight dialled up synthwave nostalgia, and Mother Mother sparked singalongs with Hayloft. Indian acts held their own too....
