Author bargains for pirated copy of her own book in viral CP video
India, Feb. 22 -- A
video of an author bargaining for a pirated copy of her own book at Connaught Place, Delhi has gone viral on social media. Taking to Instagram, author Radhika Agrawal shared a clip of herself approaching a street vendor after spotting a pirated version of her book Red Flags and Rishtas: A Desi Rom Com being sold openly.
In the video, Agrawal asks the vendor the price, and he quotes Rs.350. She playfully responds, "Author discount milega?" before revealing, "Ye meri book hai."
The unexpected moment leaves the vendor amused, and he eventually agrees to sell her the book for Rs.100, turning the exchange into a humorous yet ironic interaction.
While sharing the clip, Agrawal used humour to spotlight a serious issue in publishing. Her caption read, "How would you rate my bargaining skills? Jokes aside, piracy is one of those things that feels harmless until you realise that it threatens the entire publishing industry and harms the author in more ways than you can imagine. It chips away at author sales, royalties and even future book deals. Books run on numbers and those numbers matter more than we like to admit."
The video has since crossed 10 million views, drawing widespread reactions online.
Social media users flooded the comments section with a mix of humour, surprise and support. One user wrote, "Plot twist nobody expected." Another commented, "Imagine bargaining with the person who actually wrote the book."
"This is funny but also sad because piracy really hurts creators," noted one user, while another added, "The vendor probably didn't realise who he was talking to." Others quipped, "At least you got the author discount," and highlighted the broader issue, saying the clip shows the real impact of book piracy. HTC...
