AR Rahman agrees to credit Jr Dagar brothersafter courtintervention
India, Feb. 22 -- M
usic composer AR Rahman on Friday told the Supreme Court that he would acknowledge the Junior Dagar brothers' Shiva Stuti performance in the credits of the song Veera Raja Veera from Ponniyin Selvan II (2023). The court directed that the revised credits be updated across social media and OTT platforms within five weeks.
Rahman and the film's makers agreed to include the line: "Composition inspired from the Dagarwani tradition Dhrupad, first recorded as Shiv Stuti by late Ustad Nasir Faiyazuddin Dagar and Ustad Nasir Zahiruddin Dagar, popularly known as Junior Dagar brothers," in the credits.
The concession comes amid an ongoing copyright infringement suit filed by Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar against Rahman and the producers.

Singhvi also flagged media reports suggesting Rahman had suffered a setback, prompting the bench to state that it cannot control reportage and that the suit will proceed uninfluenced by any interim observations.
The court then disposed of the petition filed by Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar, challenging a Delhi High Court order that had set aside an earlier injunction against Rahman.
The dispute concerns the song Veera Raja Veera, which Dagar brothers claims borrows key elements from their Shiva Stuti rooted in the Dagarvani Dhrupad tradition. Rahman maintains that the track is original and that classical elements cannot be exclusively copyrighted. While the Supreme Court has directed Rahman to acknowledge the Dagar brothers' performance in the song credits, the broader copyright suit over alleged infringement continues.HTC...
