UP man shoots wife dead in police station
Lucknow, Jan. 13 -- A 36-year-old man shot his wife dead at a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district on Monday, just days after he had lodged a complaint accusing her of eloping with her lover and taking away jewellery and cash from their house, police officers said, adding that the accused, Anoop Kumar, was arrested from the spot.
The woman, Soni (32), a resident of Ramapur Atariya under Pali police station limits, had allegedly left home with her suspected lover, Surjit, a resident of Shahjahanpur, on January 7. A day after her alleged disappearance, Kumar filed a complaint at the Pali police station, alleging that his wife had taken jewellery and Rs.35,000 in cash with her.
Police registered an FIR based on the complaint and after days of search, detained her at the Pali police station on Sunday, officers said. On Monday morning, Kumar shot Soni, who was accompanied by a female constable, outside a canteen on the police station premises, the officers said. Hardoi SP Ashok Kumar Meena said that investigating officer Vikrant Chowdhary and a woman constable, Sanjana Rajput, have been suspended over alleged negligence in discharge of duty. htc...
