Mohali, Feb. 3 -- Continuing its ongoing drive to remove illegal structures outside houses and behind showrooms, the municipal corporation (MC) on Monday carried out a demolition drive in Phase 2 (Sector 54). Officials said the drive was aimed at reclaiming public land, ensuring free movement, proper drainage and adherence to approved building norms. The action was taken after repeated notices and warnings to violators to remove illegal constructions voluntarily. Municipal commissioner Parminder Pal Singh Sandhu said the campaign will continue until all encroachments within MC limits were removed: "All public spaces will be reclaimed." Since the drive started last month, some residents have begun removing illegal structures on their own, but unauthorised constructions and structures, especially those along road berms, remain widespread in several pockets, particularlyin newly developed sectorsand areas recently brought under the expanded municipal limits.HTC...
