India, April 13 -- Filmmaker Muzaffar Ali, who worked closely with Asha Bhosle on the iconic movie Umrao Jaan (1981), starring Rekha, for which she won the National Award for Dil Cheez Kya Hai, said, "Umrao Jaan has lost its entire voice, lyricist Shahryar, composer Khayyam and now Asha ji. I remember when she sang the song in a lower scale, she said there is some magic in it. After winning the National Award, she thanked me for making her part of that project." Ali also recalled their later collaborations. "We recorded five songs together for Zooni, an unreleased film project, with Khayyam and Shahryar in the late '80s. When I played them to her again, she had tears in her eyes. Now that my son Shaad Ali is reviving the project, we hope to use those songs." Remembering her warmth off stage, he added, "I met her again last year at Umrao Jaan book launch and later visited her home, where she served us kebabs. Every moment spent with her is a golden memory. It's a big loss for the industry and a deeply personal one."...
