Two killed, 12 hurt over land dispute in Karnal
Karnal, March 27 -- Two men were killed and 12 others were injured in a violent clash between two groups of an extended family over an alleged land dispute in Karnal's Gharaunda on Thursday, police said.
Several rounds of firing were reported during the clash, triggering tensions and heavy troop deployment in the village, the police said. The deceased has been identified as Wahid, 65, and Shabbira, 60, both residents of Mundigarhi village.
The incident occurred around 9 am in the village when one group attempted to take possession of a disputed agricultural land, leading to a confrontation with another group from the same family which eventually turned violent, the police added.
DSP Gharaunda, Manoj Kumar, said, "Wahid sustained fatal injuries after being run over by a tractor, while Shabbira died due to multiple assault injuries during the clash."
Police later recovered empty cartridges from the spot and injured were admitted at Gharaunda Community Health Centre (CHC) and Karnal civil hospital. Two cross FIRs were registered and a few men were also detained, police said....
